Brighter Than the Sunrise!

"For the Lord God is our sun and shield. He gives us grace and glory.  The Lord will withhold no good thing from those who do what is right."
~ Psalm 84:11

I was pondering the power of this verse today.  "The Lord is our sun and shield."  The Passion Translation says, "For the Lord God is brighter than the brilliance of a sunrise!  Wrapping Himself around me like a shield."  Some mornings, when I am sitting in my chair having my quiet time, the sun will rise and come streaming through a small eastern window on the side of our house and the brilliance will be so strong that I have to go and shut the door so I can see.    In this verse, I think of God being a sun in brilliance like that of a sunrise and how no darkness can exist inside of that brilliance.  He shines His glorious light into the circumstances around us and darkness can no longer co-exist there.  He wraps himself around us and is our shield. What a safe thought to know that God is available to us like a shield around us, Psalm 3:3 says that, "You, Lord, are a shield around me, my glory and the One who lifts my head high."  A shield is such a strong picture.  I love praying this over myself and  friends/family who are going through trials that need a protective force around them.  I mix this with Zechariah 2:5 a shield and the fire of God around them.  Yowsers!  Whoot Whooo!  :-)

The verse goes on to say, "He gives us grace and glory".  Simply stated, He gives us His divine enablement along with all the fullness of Himself made manifest The combo of grace mixed with glory is like the brightness of the sunrise, blasting in brilliance, radiating Jesus, obliterating darkness.  How incredible we are if we receive this power packed combo of Grace and Glory and release it in our lives!   And then tacked onto the end of this scripture is the promise, "The Lord will withhold no good thing from those who do what is right."

This is a great verse to claim when everything is going good.  But when disaster is looming and trouble surrounds us (our nation) , this verse becomes an anchor for our faith.  We attach our faith to these promises that God is good and will not withhold from us as we walk before Him in righteousness.

Just some thoughts to ponder today . . .
